Each country receives a numerical score from 0 (the most free) to 100 (the least free), which serves as the basis for an internet freedom status designation of <strong>Free (0-30 points)<\/strong>, <strong>Partly Free (31-60 points)<\/strong>, or <strong>Not Free (61-100 points)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"rtejustify\">Ratings are determined through an examination of three broad categories:<\/p>\n<ol style=\"list-style-type: upper-alpha;\">\n<li class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Obstacles to Access<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> assesses infrastructural and economic barriers to access; governmental efforts to block specific applications or technologies; and legal, regulatory, and ownership control over internet and mobile phone access providers.<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Limits on Content<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> examines filtering and blocking of websites; other forms of censorship and self-censorship; manipulation of content; the diversity of online news media; and usage of digital media for social and political activism.<\/li>\n<li class=\"rtejustify\"><strong>Violations of User Rights<\/strong><strong>:<\/strong> measures legal protections and restrictions on online activity; surveillance; privacy; and repercussions for online activity, such as legal prosecution, imprisonment, physical attacks, or other forms of harassment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/free3.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/freedomhouse.org\/report\/freedom-net-2013-global-scores#.U1d7FqK0wgA\">http:\/\/freedomhouse.org\/report\/freedom-net-2013-global-scores#.U1d7FqK0wgA<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"images\/Sudan_0.png\" alt=\"Sudan 0\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Freedom on the Net measures the level of internet and digital media freedom in 60 countries.
